"This is the painting that started the entire Katrina series. It sat on the easel in my studio until we returned from Jackson, MS and New York as refugees. It was begun before the storm as a scene of the statue in a cemetery in rural Sunflower County, MS.
I turned it into a New Orleans cemetery, added the water, buildings and mud: it inspired me to keep expressing myself on this tragedy that engulfed us and changed all of our lives." Rolland Golden
